TRANSrisk partner Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), has published an interesting paper entitled “The prospects for Small Hydropower in Colombia”.
As in Chile, one of TRANSRISK's case studies, in many South American countries, as well as emerging economies across the world, small hydropower (SHP) is receiving increased attention as a means to provide clean and low-carbon renewable electricity in order to meet increasing energy demands. This paper on SHP in Colombia demonstrates that the economics of this decentralized energy option, capable of delivering electricity to communities not connected to the grid, have been improving substantially over the past decades.
