TRANSition Pathways and RISK Analysis for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies

Issue #12 November 2018

As TRANSrisk is coming to its end, a series of events have been and will be organised by the end of 2018. During these events, outcomes from the implemented case studies around the world will be presented to our stakeholders so they can use them for their purposes. We hope TRANSrisk outcomes will support policymakers to better understand the risks and uncertainties involved in low-carbon transition and to develop more robust climate change mitigation & adaptation policies.

TRANSrisk Upcoming Side-Events in COP24

Title: Climate Innovations for Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Transitions

Date: Wednesday, 05 Dec 2018, at 16:00 - 18:00

Venue: Room Brussels, EU Pavillion, Katowice, Poland

This side event will present how tailor made and users' co-developed climate innovation options can support low-carbon transitions. TRANSrisk's co-principal investigator Jenny Lieu SPRU will present methodologies and tools as applied at TRANSrisk country case studies.

Title: Increasing ambition in the low-carbon transition: challenges and implications of the 1.5 and 2 degree targets

Date: Thursday, 06 Dec 2018, at 14:30 - 16:00

Venue: Room Brussels, EU Pavillion, Katowice, Poland

During this side event, H2020 and LIFE funded projects working on climate change mitigation from different angles will provide answers on how to reach the Paris Agreement goals.

On behalf of TRANSrisk Francis X. Johnson from SEI will present outcomes on investigating innovation dynamics in low-emission transition pathways.

Title: The Clean, the Dirty and the Unwanted: Capacity Building for Energy Transitions

Date: Thursday, 06 Dec 2018, at 18:00 - 20:30

Venue: RYSY Meeting Room 24 - Area E, PCCB Capacity-Building Hub, Katowice, Poland

The aim of this event is to explore tools and methodologies on building capacity for low carbon transitions, and to support municipalities and countries in achieving their National Determined Contributions.

The event will be chaired by Marzena Chodor from UN's PCCB, while Jenny Lieu from SPRU, Takeshi Takama from SEI, Aleksander Szpor from IBS and Mbeo Ogeya from SEI will present conclusions from the TRANSrisk case studies in Indonesia, Poland, and Kenya. Zsolt Lengyel, member of TRANSrisk's scientific advisory board, will highlight a synthesis of the presented findings and specifically on integrating local priorities and modelling approaches for energy transition and climate action.

TRANSrisk & SET-Nav joint Regional Workshop

Title: Decarbonising our Energy System: Transformation pathways, policies and markets with spotlight on Greece

Date: Friday, 16 Nov 2018

Venue: Electra Metropolis Hotel, Athens, Greece

TRANSrisk co-organised with the Horizon2020 SET-Nav project the regional workshop “Decarbonising our Energy System: Transformation pathways, policies and markets with spotlight on Greece”.

Alexandros Flamos (TEESLab) demonstrated how the Greek solar market could be developed towards decentralised renewable energy generation and storage. Haris Doukas (NTUA) highlighted how climate models could transform from integrated to integrative climate policy support.

Alexandros Nikas (NTUA) presented insights from the stakeholder-driven analysis regarding the consequential risks of a solar-based transition in Greece and Vassilis Stavrakas (TEESLab) pointed out the role of prosumers in producing and storing clean energy at the local level.
