11th International Workshop on Empirical Methods in Energy Economics, 14-15 June 2018, Milan, Italy

Date:
Thursday, 14 June, 2018 - 08:30 to Friday, 15 June, 2018 - 16:00

TRANSrisk partner Institute for Structural Research (IBS) participated at the 11th International Workshop on Empirical Methods in Energy Economics which took place on 14th - 15th of June in Milan, Italy.

More particularly, researcher Marek Antosiewicz presented research outputs on the optimal energy mix for Poland using the least cost bottom-up energy system optimization model called Calliope. The work, conducted jointly with Oscar van Vliet from ETH Zurich, shows that a gradual increase in the share of renewable energy output in Poland will result in a very small increase in the cost of energy production. The cheapest renewable alternative to coal is currently wind power, which will need to be backed up by installing more gas turbines.
