TRANSrisk stakeholder workshop on steel sector decarbonisation, November 2016, Vienna, Austria

Saturday, 19 November, 2016 - 09:30 to 18:00

TRANSrisk partner University of Graz (UniGraz) organised a stakeholder workshop regarding the decarbonisation of the Austrian steel sector, in November 2016, in Vienna, Austria.

The workshop's objectives were to discuss with stakeholders the desired futures for the steel and energy sectors in Austria and to formulate the relevant low-carbon transition pathways leading to these futures.

More particularly, the policy options that each pathway is consisted of, as well as the risks and uncertainties which may interfere in the pathways were highlighted. Moreover, the interests and capabilities of the actors active in the Austian steel and energy sectors were identified, while indicators for the evaluation of the pathways were defined.

The stakeholders' opinions gathered through the workshop were processed through model runs in order to assess the transition pathways in terms of achieving climate change mitigation targets, and robustness.

The TRANSrisk case study in Austria used the WEGC-computable general equilibrium (WEGC-CGE) model. More information on the model is available here.
