TRANSrisk partner Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (CLAPESUC) organised the workshop "Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Chile: Evidence and Challenges" on 8th June 2017, at the Aula Magna of the MBA Building of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Av. Lib. Bernardo O'Higgins 440), in Santiago, Chile.
The workshop presented empirical and comparative evidence on three themes of Sustainable Development, seeking to anticipate future challenges for Chile. Researchers from TRANSrisk partner Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (CLAPESUC) highlighted energy poverty in Chile and its risks to climate change, while researchers from TRANSrisk partners Science Technology Policy Research, University of Sussex (SPRU), Joint Implementation Network (JIN), and Cambridge Econometrics (CE) participated in the workshop presenting relevant outcomes from the work implemented within the TRANSrisk case studies in China, and the Netherlands.
More specifically, Luis Edwin Gonzales from CLAPESUC delivered the presentation "Energy Poverty and its risks to climate change in Chile" emphasising the risks associated with addressing energy poverty challenges in Chile whilst considering the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Also, five indicators of energy poverty for Chile, that have been created using the latest Encuesta de Presupuestos Familiares (EPF 2013), were presented.
Moreover, Jenny Lieu from SPRU presented outcomes from the TRANSrisk building sector case study in China. Particularly, the development of low carbon transition pathways for Shanghai and Beijin, two major metropolitan cities in different climatic zones, was presented.
Finally, Eise Spijker from JIN presented the existing co-effects of different low-emission transition pathways in the Dutch livestock.
